Working at a Pumpkin Lot: Week 4

The weather did a 180 and we traded in our tees and shorts for our sweaters and pants. Here’s this week’s episode of our adventures workamping at a pumpkin lot.  You can view previous episodes here, Week 1, Week 2, and Week 3.

Week 4: 10/8/18 to 10/14/18

Monday: The mum debacle ended with us decreasing prices on the unsightly ones.  The boss wasn’t too happy with the peaked flowers, but he ended up ordering more which we sold for a couple bucks more to make up for the profit loss.

Tuesday: Still in the 80s but the wind brought a bit of reprieve.  Low temperatures are in the forecast later this week! Yippee!

Wednesday: Got a call from the boss at 1:30 AM.  High winds were coming our way, bringing in the cold front.  We needed to deflate Oscar, our great big inflatable pumpkin, so as not to damage him.  What a sight to see at our lot at 1:30 AM…Levi and I rushing around in our robes and slippers trying to slowly deflate this 30 foot tall behemoth in such a manner that it doesn’t collapse all at once.

Thursday: Cold weather finally arrived, highs in the 60s and lows in the 50s.  With the fall weather came kiddos dressed in trick-or-treat costumes. We sold a whole slew of pumpkins to Batman and his grandmother and then a mini pumpkin to a strawberry and her parents.

Friday: About 14 more boxes of traditional orange pumpkins were delivered on this cloudy and chilly day.  They aren’t quite ready for sale since we are still trying to finish selling the first shipment.  Many newbies to a pumpkin patch…we took pictures of young and older folks to celebrate their first pumpkin patch visit!

Saturday: The rain came along with temperatures of 50s and 60s.  We continued to get customers but the weather slowed down what would have been a weekend of BIG sales. We were given the OK to close an hour early since we had zero traffic at night.

Sunday: More rain and colder temps meant fewer traffic than yesterday.  We still profited quite a bit but not as anticipated.

Till next week….
