By Land and By Sea on the Wisconsin Dells

If your travels take you thru Wisconsin, make sure to swing by Wisconsin Dells…during their off-season.  Wisconsin Dells is literally the “Waterpark Capital of the World.” After Labor Day it dwindles down and eventually turns into a ghost town, a bit apocalyptic with the empty football-sized parking lots and drained out pools.

RV parks and hotels are still open to visitors, as well as the waterways.  Boat tours are offered along the Upper and Lower Wisconsin Dells up to November.  The lines are short and the water traffic is nonexistent so you can enjoy the beauty of the area’s unique sandstone, glistening water, and “cheesy” tour guide jokes (I had to say that…come on, it’s Wisconsin!)
The boat tour we took, in particular, was the Upper Dells Tour  through a company called Dells Boat Tours. It was a two-hour (not three-hour) tour with two shore landings only accessible by the tour.

As far as where we parked the motorhome on our stay…there are quite a few RV parks to choose from in Wisconsin Dells, especially when we arrived in October. We ended up staying at American Resort and Treehouses. Besides the hotel and funky treehouse cabins, the establishment has an RV park, basically a parking lot with marked off spots offering hook-ups (ranging from full to partial). As a customer, you have access to the man-made lagoon, pools, hot tubs, and sauna. It was pretty pricey compared to other RV parks we’ve stayed at before but we were really wanting to take advantage of the amenities (i.e., hot tubs and saunas all to ourselves).

Just a note, we do not represent Dells Boat Tours or American Resort and Treehouses in any way. We are simply documenting our RV travels and note-worthy detours along our route.
